A brief history...

Ok. Here tis. The inaugural posting! And what a weak one I plan on making it.
Elizabeth and I left the US on November 1st and arrived in Hong Kong the following day. We then headed thru Shenzhen, the base city my new employer, and on up to Xi’an, in Shaanxi province, our new home away from home. In Xi’an we have a great and humungous apartment that overlooks smog and a pine/bamboo park on the ground level. On the weekends we find ourselves being a bit of a zoo exhibit, as local Chinese residents wander by to catch a glimpse of the rare, hairy westerner. I am usually happy to oblige and even show them a bit of lower back fur if I’m feeling especially generous.
Since arriving, Elizabeth has been the most productive. She signed up for intensive Mandarin classes at a local and prestigious university, going 5 days a week for the past couple months. I, on the other hand, have done next to nothing, and have excelled at it. Up until just the other day, when I finally cracked the code for being able to post on this site, I had not touched an airplane. I had, however, learned how to give CPR to babies and jump out of a simulated burning airplane into a shallow pool and swim into a life raft—something extremely useful for flying around arid Central China.

We have done a bit of exploring, mainly locally, and have visited many incredible historic sites that I’ll include pictures of. Yet with the uncertainty of when I was to begin work, we were unable to venture too far off…until now. I have begun being a productive member of the world’s society again, and with that have been given a regular schedule that will allow us to venture off more frequently and have stupid-silly adventures here and there.
Ok—there you go- now you’re all caught up. I have written a few postings here and there which I’ll place after this one, so let’s just go from here.
